Peter Mongillo has the full rundown of this month’s concert selections in today’s June music preview. Big concerts include The Postal Service (Cedar Park Center, June 2), Mumford and Sons (Austin360 Amphitheater, June 8-9) and Cyndi Lauper (Stubb’s BBQ, June 25). A few artists who picked up big buzz coming out of SXSW are ethereal electropop band Chvrches (Mohawk, June 5 - technically sold out), Winston Yellen’s Nashville-based Night Beds (Mohawk, June 6) and Kendrick Lamar, who broke out at SXSW 2012 and was literally everywhere this year (Whitewater Amphitheater, June 13).
A few local artists picking up new residency gigs include singer-songwriter Matt the Electrician (Thursdays, Strange Brew), Honky-Tonkers Mike and the Moonpies (Thursdays, White Horse) and jazz outfit Black Red Black (Wednesdays, One 2 One Bar). On June 7 at the Parish Soul Track Mind celebrates 5 funky years and local fave Bob Schneider drops his latest album on June 14 at Antone’s new Eastside haunt.
