As team 360 began to compile This Week’s Playlist: Made in America, a Fourth of July-themed set of ‘America’ songs one thing became quickly apparent. For every patriotic celebration of our country we found (and yes, we left this obvious one out) we found artists who, without disavowing their homeland, were honestly grappling with what it means to be American.

This trend cuts across race and era. While Frank Ocean, Jay-Z and Kanye celebrate their only-in-America largess in “Made in America,” Daptones’ soul titan Charles Bradley poses the wrenching question “Why Is It So Hard (To Make It in America).” While John Mellencamp creates a jubilant tribute to ‘60 rock in “R.O.C.K. in the USA,” Bruce Springsteen creates a searing indictment with “Born in the USA.” In between all of this we travel through city streets and down dusty country roads as two dozen artists provide a kaleidoscopic perspective of our homeland.

And you know what? That’s what makes America so great. You can love it, you can celebrate it, you can fight to change it and it’s all ok. Beacuse, freedom! So take a few minutes to listen to This Week’s Playlist: Made in America, have a great holiday and god bless America, y’all.
