The location has changed, but the dedication to good music in a bucolic outdoor setting remains.

In 1993, the Backyard opened as 5,000-person capacity venue at Texas 71 West and RM 620. Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Bonnie Raitt, Coldplay and Norah Jones were among the hundreds of acts to appear on that original stage. Tim O’Connor of Direct Events closed the venue in October 2008 with a weekend of shows headlined by Willie Nelson, who played the first show at the original site and the new location that opened in 2010, not far from the first.

Willie will be back Sunday as the Backyard celebrates 20 years of shows. The day of music includes Leon Russell (who played the first Willie Picnic 40 years ago), Joe Ely, Jason Boland and A.J. Croce.

Doors are at noon, followed by the National Anthem at 12:10 p.m. and Beto y Los Fairlanes starting the music at 12:15 p.m. Willie is scheduled to go on at 9 p.m.

Tickets are $45 to $105, and the Backyard is at 13801 Bee Cave Parkway in Bee Cave. Information:
