The Austin hip-hop scene was shaken to its core last month when a key backline player drummer Lamondo “Tiny” Watson died suddenly of complications following heart surgery. Watson, who was 35-years-old, touched the lives and blessed the tracks of many of Austin’s hip-hop heavyweights.
On Saturday, many of those artists will come together to celebrate his life. To that end, they’ve put together what shaping up to be powerhouse showcase at Flamingo Cantina on Saturday. Featured artists are Max Frost, Riders Against the Storm, League of Extraordinary Gz, Reggie Coby and Bavu Blakes. Special guests are promised. Cover is a donation to gofundme.com/tinywatkins, a fund set up to pay off Watson’s remaining funeral expenses and establish a scholarship fund for his two teenaged children. The suggestion amount is $5, but you know how it goes, throw in a little extra if you can.
Whether you’re a die-hard fan or you’ve always been curious about local hip-hop, this is a great opportunity to catch some of the city’s top talent on one bill.
