In just over 50 words: Earnest folksters who have gradually matured into an earnest rock band, Noah and the Whale’s latest album Heart of Nowhere takes the band’s sound to its most vibrant place yet. Gone are the bleep-bloops of 2011’s Last Night On Earth; on deck are more prominent strings and horns, with yearning guitars and vaguely blue-collar melodies — think “The Gaslight Anthem’s kid brother who goes to art school,” at times.
Could share a bill with: Ra Ra Riot, Frightened Rabbit, Matt Pond PA, The Boxer Rebellion
Big screen:Heart of Nowhere has an accompanying film of the same name, co-written and directed by frontman Charlie Fink.
