On the first day of ACL, both veteran and newbie fest-goers were still glowing in the excitement. We chatted with folks about who they were most excited to check out this year. Here’s what they had to say:

  • For Austinite Julie Winston, 44, everything was exciting. “It’s my first ACL!” she said. Although she’s looking forward to The Cure and Atoms For Peace, she really looking forward to getting the total festival experience.
  • Rick Griffith, 44, of Denver comes to ACL every year. “It doesn’t matter who is playing,” he said. “It’s my three-day vacation, so I meet up with my best friends and enjoy.”
  • Brother and sister Kaylee, 22, and Mike Fiorello, 24, came from Atlanta to check out their friends the Blind Boys of Alabama. Kaylee can’t wait to see Kings of Leon, and Mike says that he’s just happy to be in Austin. He says he loves the city and loves festivals - perfect. “I would have come even I didn’t recognize any artists in the lineup.”
  • Marco Gallegos didn’t research any of the bands. He didn’t plan for months, anxiously waiting to attend ACL either. Actually, he found out that he had Friday off work and bought himself a ticket at the last minute. The Austinite cruised over to the fest and was still figuring out the lineup when we caught up to him. But Gallegos, 32, was happy to see Depeche Mode on the schedule.
