It’s closed on the Saturday night of ACL Fest, but is Club Deville closed forever?

The word spread throughout ACL today and on Twitter. “Emergency repairs” notice on the front door. All dark on one of the businest nights of the year. Owner Michael Terrazas just answered a text with this: “We have been working with the new landlord’s mgmt company and we are looking forward to an amicable resolution next week.”

The Austin Chronicle reported this morning that Deville owes $27,000 in back rent, specified by a notice from landlord posted on the venue’s front doors.

Club Deville opened in 1997 when Terrazas and Abigail King took over the former 900 Red River Street location of Chances, a lesbian bar that hosted some legendary SXSW shows. I met Terrazas there when they were working on it and he had high hopes that his bar would be the hottest in town. For several years it was.

We’ll see what develops and hope for the best, but as of tonight Club Deville is closed until further notice.
