We’re not exactly sure what the story behind the Website is, but we’re not going to argue with their taste in music. The site, which seems to be run by ex-industry folks from New York City, L.A. and beyond named local singer-songwriter Alejandro Rose-Garcia a.k.a. Shakey Graves Best New Male Artist in their annual Newbie Awards. Rose-Garcia was in good company as the site named Scottish indie rockers Chvrches as Best New Band and New Zealander Lorde as Best New Female Artist. Both of those acts have had amazing years with chart-topping releases and sold-out tours.

Rose-Garcia kept a significantly lower profile, but he’s been touring extensively and clearly building his fan base. When he played ACL Festival a couple months backhe pulled an impressive crowd in the heat of the late afternoon for a set that was utterly captivating. Alone on stage with just his guitar and a rudimentary foot pedal set-up, Rose-Garcia held court to an audience that received him with rapt attention. Many fans sang along with his older material, but with irresistible charisma Rose-Garcia easily pedaled the new stuff too.

There’s a new Shakey Graves album due out next year (no release date has been set) but if you can’t wait that long to see him, never fear, he’ll be rounding out a Texas tour with two dates at the Parish at the end of the year. He’s joined on the tour by singer-songwriter Robert Ellis. Danny Malonewill open on December 30 and Whisky Shivers get things started on New Year’s Eve. Tickets are $20 for each night and $35 for a 2-night package if one night just isn’t enough. More information.
