The Austin360 Amphitheater at the Circuit of the Americas has been nominated for best new major concert venue by Pollstar, a concert industry trade publication.

As part of a multi-year sponsorship agreement, the amphitheater is named for the American-Statesman’s weekly Austin360 entertainment section and the website.

Opened in April, the venue hosted nearly two dozen big-name performers in its first season, including Jimmy Buffett, Maroon 5, Kenny Chesney, Train and Lil’ Wayne.

“We’ve had an amazing opening season, and we’re honored to be nominated as one of the best new places in the country to watch live music,” said Paul Thornton, head of Circuit of the Americas’ events and entertainment division. “Our venue has been warmly embraced by performers and music lovers, and has been a welcome addition to Austin’s live music scene.”

Acts booked next season at the Austin360 Amphitheater include Arcade Fire.

Other nominees are the America’s Cup Pavilion in San Francisco; First Direct Arena in Leeds, United Kingdom; Perth Arena in Perth, Australia; and Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb.

Pollstar will announce the winner of the best new major concert venue award on Feb. 21.
