UPDATE (2:20 p.m.): SXSW has announced the lineup for its Lou Reed tribute on its website. A few names were added from this morning’s post — the Black Lips, Jesse Malin and the Fauntleroys. A few names that had been posted on artist Cindy Lee Berryhill’s website are not on SXSW’s official release, and have been removed below.
The full lineup for SXSW’s tribute to Lou Reed at the Paramount Theatre on Friday, March 14, has not yet been announced, but a Wednesday morning post on the website of singer-songwriter Cindy Lee Berryhill — who is among the participants — listed some of the performers.
The event is being organized by New York singer-songwriter Richard Barone and Austin bandleader Alejandro Escovedo. Performers include Suzanne Vega, the Black Lips, Garland Jeffreys, Bobby Bare Jr., the Fauntleroys, Louise Goffin, Cindy Lee Berryhill, Cheeta Chrome, Jesse Malin and The Baseball Project (with R.E.M.’s Peter Buck, the Dream Syndicate’s Steve Wynn and the Minus 5’s Scott McCaughey). Guest MC is Sharon Needles.
The SXSW event page for the tribute lists two additional acts on the bill that were not listed on Wednesday’s announcement: Spandau Ballet and BP Fallon & the Bandits.
Berryhill will be at SXSW primarily for an afternoon panel on Wednesday, March 12, discussing her late husband, the influential rock writer and Crawdaddy founder Paul Williams, who died last year. She’ll also be performing that night with her Garage Orchestra in a 9 p.m. official SXSW showcase at Esther’s Follies.
