Austin rockers Blind Pets, Casual Strangers and Residual Kid are playing a benefit show for Austin Child Guidance Center at the Mohawk tonight. The ACGC is a local nonprofit that provides mental health services for underserved children of Central Texas. Following last week’s tragedy on Red River during South By Southwest, the ACGC has decided to donate a portion of the proceeds from tonight’s show to the SXSW Cares fund.
SXSW Cares was established to provide assistance to the victimes of the tragedy and their families. The donations tally on the SXSW.com homepage currently stands at $108,436. That total doesn’t include larger corporate donations that have been made to the fund. Last Friday, the Statesman reported an additional $50,000 of donations came in during the first 24 hours that the fund was open. Those donations included $20,000 from Vans Shoes, $10,000 from Stratus Properties Inc. Chairman and CEO Beau Armstrong and an anonymous donation of $20,000.
