New to the Austin recording studio scene is Orb, which hosted a grand opening in mid-March just after a busy SXSW in which artists including Lil Wayne, Erykah Badu and Justin Bieber stopped by to check the place out.

Located southwest of town off of U.S. Highway 290, the 5,600-square-foot studio was built by C.B. Hudson and Matt Noveskey of local rock band Blue October. The band’s lead singer, Justin Furstenfeld, played an acoustic set the studio’s grand opening on March 16.

Also performing at the grand opening were Tori Vasquez, Reed Turner and Quiet Company, who recorded an album at the studio over the winter during its soft-launch phase. Others who have used the space so far include Emily Bell, Rachel Loy and IAmDynamite.
