Radney Foster at The Belmont. A memory that still stands out about Radney Foster dates back more than 10 years, at a songwriters panel in Nashville during the Americana Music Association Conference. Foster was playing his early hit “Texas in 1880,” and fellow panelist Bruce Robison, one of Austin’s top country songwriters, was lost in the moment, throwing his head back and singing along off-mic. That’s how Foster’s music moves even his most talented peers: He’s one of those rare Nashville tunesmiths blessed with both a soulful sincerity and a strong sense of commercial viability. He gets cuts by the major artists, but his own records — including the new “Everything I Should Have Said,” which features a duet with Austin’s Patty Griffin — are the best testaments to what Foster is all about. $15. 8 p.m. 305 W. Lapalux at the Parish. UK producer Stuart Howard is part of the IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) movement in EDM (Electronic Dance Music). IDM eschews party-centric throbbing beats and glow sticks, focusing instead on musical experimentation. Howard loops tapes and layers sound into halting, glitchy compositions with hints of melody and haunting vocals drifting through fuzzy soundscapes. It’s occasionally uncomfortable, but frequently entrancing stuff. Boombaptist and Soundfounder open. $15. 9 p.m. 214 E. Sixth St. parishaustin.com. —D.S.S.
