Up from the depths, 30 stories high — well, actually 35 songs long — comes a monster mix: this week’s Godzilla-inspired playlist.

As summer blockbuster season begins its rampage across America’s cineplexes, the big green guy makes his stateside silver screen return in ‘Godzilla,’ opening Friday. In honor of the imminent lizard-wrought destruction, we’ve compiled a mix of songs about all things big, destructive and monstrous.

Blue Oyster Cult’s seminal “Godzilla,” about the king of the kaiju himself, gets the playlist off to a roar. Other tracks tell the tales of some of the big guy’s big friends, like “King Kong” by Daniel Johnston, “One-eyed One-horned Flying Purple People Eater” by Pat Boone and “Mothra” by Larvae.

Before getting in line for “Godzilla” this weekend, cultivate a generally destructive mood with mega jams like “Big In Japan” by Alphaville or “Monster” by Kanye West, Jay Z, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross and Bon Iver. And of course, no tribute to all things king-size would be complete without “Gigantic” by the Pixies.

As an aside: If the song below was on Spotify, the entire playlist would consist of this one track, looped 35 times.
