Monday music pick: DJ Mel at Nasty’s

DJ Mel at Nasty’s. As many a University of Texas alum can attest, the longest running hip-hop weekly in town has been cranking out the party jams for close to 18 years. Every Monday, the inconspicuous, rugby-centric north campus dive bar best known for its pitchers of margaritas transforms into a booty-shaking hot spot. These days Mel is regularly called upon for high profile gigs, performing at festivals to audiences of thousands, but he still returns to Nasty’s whenever he’s in town. “It’s grounding,” he told us last year. It’s also a great way to kick off a week. $4. 10 p.m. 606 Maiden Lane.
