Before you ask: No, these are not the best songs of 2014. They’re just some songs that we really, really like.

A few weeks ago, we caught you up on some cuts that you might have missed from local artists this year. This week, we’re casting a wider net to bring you Austin360’s 2014 Mid-year Report, some of our favorite songs released from January (“Transgender Dysphoria Blues” by Against Me!) until this week (“Sexotheque” by La Roux).

In between, our fancies fly from the quirky rock of Future Islands and St. Vincent to the dance magic of Robyn & Royyksopp and Phantogram to slick R&B by FKA twigs and How To Dress Well. There’s also pop-punk (Modern Baseball), bluegrass (Hurray For The Riff Raff), Top 40 pop (Sia), hip hop (Freddie Gibbs and Madlib), garage rock (Parquet Courts) and even an Arcade Fire cover (Mr. Little Jeans).

No guarantees that our favorite 2014 jams won’t change by December, though. Listen to the 2014 Mid-year Report, now on Spotify.
