OUT THIS WEEK

Micky & the Motorcars, “Hearts From Above”: Ten years and a half-dozen albums into their run as one of the mainstays on the Texas country-rock roadhouse circuit, this outfit led by “the other Braun Brothers” – the ones not in higher-profile act Reckless Kelly – stand fully on their own merits with “Hearts From Above.” Micky Braun is out front on most songs, though Gary Braun’s Buddy Holly-esque “You Led Me the Wrong Way” is one of the high points here. The title track (co-written by Micky and brother Willy from Reckless Kelly) and “Long Road to Nowhere” open the disc with a one-two kick of instantly appealing tuneful Americana; it’s a bit hit-and-miss from there, but their cover of Alejandro Escovedo and Chuck Prophet’s moving “Sister Lost Soul” is a very nice touch, and a fitting tribute to original bassist Mark McCoy, who died in a rafting accident two years ago in the band’s home state of Idaho. Release show: Friday at Saxon Pub.

Also: Jason Roberts Band, “That’s My Home,” release show Friday at the Broken Spoke; Noel McKay, “Is That So Much to Ask,” playing Friday with Brennen Leigh at the White Horse; Frank Mustard Project, “Jelly Butter” EP, release show Friday at the Continental Club, in-store 3 p.m. Saturday at Antone’s Records.
