A handful of Austin musicians will play Beatles songs as part of the Sunday services at the Center for Spiritual Living throughout the month of August in the Center’s 13th annual Beatles Month event.

Minister Walt Brewer bases his talks around the lyrics from select Beatles songs, which the musicians then perform live. Taking part in the series are Darin Murphy (Aug. 3), John Burgess (Aug. 10), Michael Fracasso (Aug. 17), Kit Holmes (Aug. 24) and Kim & Paul Polini (Aug. 31). The series concludes with a Sept. 7 Taizé service with assistant minister Melanie Colpaart plus music by Lisa Clark and Cate Wolfe.

Sunday services at the Center, 4402 Merle Road (near Manchaca Road and Ben White Blvd.), begin at 10:30 a.m.

In San Antonio, it might be more accurate to designate October as Beatles Month. The city’s new Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, which opens in September, scored a major coup with an Oct. 1 fundraising gala performance by Paul McCartney, just a few days before an Oct. 7 concert by Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band.
