The mercury is rising. The streets are sizzling and the city has settled into a slightly slower groove. We present the 360 Summer Mixtape. Each week we’ll check in with a different figure in the Austin music scene for summery song selections and pro tips on keeping it cool through the hottest months of the year.

Track selector: Christopher ‘Zumbi’ Richards

Bands: Cilantro Boombox, The Golden Dawn Arkestra, Micah Shalom and The Babylonians, Macaxeira Funk, Don Chani

Next gigs: 7.25 at Flamingo Cantina with Babylonians, 7.26 at Flamingo Cantina with Macaxeira Funk, 7.29 at The Sahara Lounge with Golden Dawn

Favorite cold drink: Sake-tinis. The Voltron from the Soup Peddler

Best way to cool off (that’s not Barton Springs): Does hanging out with my dog at the spillway count?

Summer show you’re psyched about: August 22. Cilantro & Lime Nights Vol 2: A musical riverboat cruise featuring DJ Manny, Chorizo Funk, and Cilantro Boombox

‘Shortyville’ by Trombone Shorty: If you haven’t heard about Trombone Shorty, then you are missing out. This guy is arguably one of the best trombone/trumpet/performer on the scene today. I definitely like listening to his music for inspiration. A trombone player myself, I strive to produce the kind of sounds that this man creates. Plus he puts on a high energy live show that should not be missed.

‘Mas O Menos’ by Budos Band: This song is super funky. It reminds me of a cool down party after a long hot Summer day.

‘Fears Away’ by Cilantro Boombox: This is a feelgood summer tune that I had a hand in writing. Its all about tossing your fears away, and not letting anything hold you back. This is what summer is all about, being free. Cilantro released this as a single in may, and since then it has encouraged people to dance from little tots to (who would have thought it) Mayor Lee Leffingwell. This song is a blast to perform.
