Monday’s music picks: Townes Van Zandt tribute, Chris Duarte
Townes Van Zandt birthday tribute at Cactus Cafe. It’s been nearly 20 years since Van Zandt’s death on New Year’s Day 1997, but his friend and fellow Texas songwriting archetype Butch Hancock has helped keep his music alive in Austin with this annual celebration. Townes would have been 72 this year, but many of his songs feel like they must have been around for centuries, and they’re likely to last in the repertoires of his musical admirers for generations to come. You never know who might join Hancock for this show that usually sells out, but whoever’s singing them, the songs are the main attraction. $25. 8 p.m. 2247 Guadalupe St. cactuscafe.org.
