About the artist: Last year’s ACL Fest performance from Foxygen, the musical duo consisting of instrumentalist Johnathan Rado and singer Sam France, was more spectacle than actual set. France, hobbled by an injured leg, staggered around the stage, ranted incoherently and engaged in a bout of primal screaming before cutting the early Sunday set off 15 minutes early. This performance, coupled with many other erratic appearances led many to speculate the band was on the verge of disintegration.
Defying the naysayers Foxygen has reemerged. Last month the band dropped an expansive ramble of a double album, with hints of brilliance slopped in among a mess of semi-formed ideas. As for the live shows, early reports from this year’s tour find Rado and France charging forward with a nine-piece band, in shows that are exhilarating even as they’re downright weird.
