Planner, Sept. 5: Duran Duran, Cher and more tickets on sale today

Tony Atkins
Duran Duran will play Nov. 1 at ACL Live as part of COTA Fan Fest during Formula 1 weekend.

Believe it or not, it has been almost 25 years since the end of the 1980s. That’s right, the decade that birthed things such as Cabbage Patch Kids, Skip-Its, Alf, Thundercats and “Thriller” ended almost a quarter-century ago.

Before that small factoid upsets anyone, you can find solace in knowing that tickets to see ’80s pop superstars Duran Duran at ACL Live are on sale this week. The Grammy Award-winning band will play Nov. 1 as part of COTA Fan Fest during Formula 1 weekend. Duran Duran’s hits include “Hungry Like The Wolf,” “Save a Prayer” and “Rio.” If you’re interested in putting those classic cassettes to the side for a day, tickets to see Duran Duran will range from $325 to $575. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and the show will start at 8 p.m.

Moving on from one ’80s sensation to the next, tickets to see Cher at the Erwin Center also go on sale Friday. Cher’s singing and acting career has actually spanned six decades, and she is still going strong at 68 years old. Her “Dressed to Kill” tour stops Nov. 11 in Austin. Tickets for the show range from $20 to $150.

That’s not all, folks. Here’s a list of some other tickets on sale today:

• Gorgon City at the Parish (Oct. 17)

• The Tontons at Stubb’s (Oct. 23)

Coming up

Running and healthy eating go hand in hand, and a new Austin event next weekend knits the two together.

The Fit Foodie 5K Race Weekend, set for Sept. 12-14, includes a Friday night tasting, a Saturday morning race, and Sunday morning yoga and boot camp sessions, capped off with a healthy brunch.

The event is hosted by Cooking Light & Health and takes place at Mueller Lake Park, 1311 Philomena St. It started in 2013 in San Diego, and expanded to Austin and Fairfax, Virginia, this year.

The event opens with a pre-race Light Up the Night VIP Cocktail Party on Sept. 12.

Race day kicks off with a stretching session and dance party at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. A post-race celebration will feature food, Stella Artois beer and Cidre, as well as fitness and culinary demonstrations.

On Sept. 14, guests can attend either a morning yoga session led by Tom Leverett, or a Power Systems Obstacle Course Boot Camp session led by celebrity trainer Patrick Goudeau.

Cost is $45 for the VIP party, $55 for the race, $35 for the Chef’s Experience, $35 for the yoga or bootcamp sessions, or $120 for the entire weekend at Ten percent of ticket sales will benefit City of Hope, which researches treatment for cancer, diabetes and other diseases.
