The three-month-long celebration of movies features more than 110 films, all of which are presented in decent-to-dazzling prints as digital restorations.

The 2018 Summer Classic Film Series kick off with opening night film “Casablanca”

Longtime sponsor Capital Metro will be hosting Transit Adventure Nights throughout the series, which include free admission to the movie, free popcorn and a free Transit Day Pass. The first Transit Adventure is “Dr. Strangelove” on May 26th.

The Family Films begin on June 3 with “The Wizard of Oz;” other screenings include “The Little Mermaid,” “Annie,” a 40th anniversary screening of “Superman” and more.

Some of the thematic screenings include “Fantastic Heroines,” with a 40th anniversary screening of “The Wiz,” a 70th of “The Red Shoes;” “Dystopian Visions,” including “Metropolis,” “Mad Max” and “Brazil;” “Back to School” with a 40th of “National Lampoon’s Animal House;” “O Coen Brothers, Where Art Thou?,” featuring “The Big Lebowski” (which turns 20 this year); “Defiant Women,” with “Thelma & Louise” and t he 90-year old “The Passion of Joan of Arc” and many more. 

In July, Iron and Wine’s Sam Beam will return to Austin Theatre to host a special screening of William Friedkin’s “Sorcerer” with free small popcorn for guests. 

The popular “Martinis & Manicures” film events will return this August with the problematic-as-heck “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “The Devil Wears Prada,” offering guests martinis and manicures before the presentations.

And then there’s “Hitchcock Week” Aug. 14 to 19 with screenings of 80-year old “The Lady Vanishes,” 60-year old “Vertigo,” “North by Northwest” and more. 

The 2018 Summer Classic Film Series comes to a close with “Giant” Aug. 31 and “Gone with the Wind” Sept. 1.
