Get ready to destroy your television with ‘Punk TV Mayhem’
Punk rock has never had the easiest time getting depicted in film and TV with any modicum of accuracy. The list of TV shows and movies which do not exactly get it right is long and weird. (You want to see it done correctly? The “Moshing and Noshing” episode of “Freaks and Geeks” remains terrific.)
On Dec. 1, a few local punks are paying tribute to these misguided efforts over at the Austin Film Society with a show called “Punk TV Mayhem.”
Local producer Zack Carlson (also the co-editor of “Destroy All Movies: The Complete Guide To Punks On Film”) and punk collector/dealer Ryan Richardson will join TV writer Sam Egan (the guy who wrote the infamous punk episode of “Quincy”) to discuss all things punk and television after screening some rare punk vs. network TV....clips? Footage? Documentaries? Only the punks know for certain!
The screening takes place at 10 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.
