Drafthouse Films has teamed with Films We Like to acquire North American rights to “The Congress,” director Ari Folman’s follow-up to his Oscar-nominated “Waltz with Bashir.”

The movie, which stars Robin Wright, Harvey Keitel, Jon Hamm and Paul Giamatti, is an animated-live action hybrid has a meta narrative that features Wright playing a fictional version of herself. The ambitious film played in the Director’s Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival in May.

“‘The Congress’ cements Ari Folman’s position as one of the most innovative and provocative filmmakers working today,” Drafthouse Films CEO Tim League said. “It will be a joy to share his creative vision with American audiences.”

“The Congress” will have a theatrical and VOD release later this year.
