Kicking + Screening Soccer Film Festival coming to Austin this weekend
Can they kick it? Yes, they can. The University of Texas Sports Development Lab is hosting a film festival focused on soccer. The Kicking + Screening Soccer Film Festival was founded by Greg Lalas and Rachel Markus in 2009 and features annual events in New York City and around the world. This is the festival’s first appearance in Austin.
The two-day event features screenings and discussions, with titles including “The Four Year Plan,” a documentary about West London football club Queens Park Rangers attempt to make it to the English Premier League, and “After the Cup: Sons of Sakhnin United,” a feature about the first soccer team from an Arab town to win the Israeli Cup and represent Israel in European competition.
Screenings take place at UT’s Student Activity Center Auditorium (2201 Speedway) on Saturday and at the Texas Union Theater (2247 Guadalupe St.) on Sunday. One-day tickets are $15 for general public and $12 for UT students. Two-day passes are $25 ($20 for students). For tickets and more information, visit sportdev.utexas.org/ksaustin.
