Austinite Rob Thomas’s feature film based on his cult TV show “Veronica Mars” will be released on March 14, according to Entertainment Weekly. The movie got its legs from a famous Kickstarter campaign tat raised over $5 million, more than double its goal. The movie will star the Kristen Bell, who made the character famous on TV. Thomas says Warner Bros. will give the film a national release, and with the opening one week after the opening weekend of South by Southwest Film, there’s probably a good chance the movie bows for an audience here in Austin first.

Thomas talked about adapting the TV show for the big screen at the Austin Film Festival in October, and we covered the highlights here.
