Alamo Drafthouse released a statement this morning that the long-awaited rebuild/renovation of Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar and The Highball will open, grandly this summer in the newly redeveloped Lamar Union complex in South Austin.

The expanded Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar will feature three brand new auditoriums for a total of nine-screens, auditoriums which will range in size from 46 seats to 200 seats, with combined seating for more than 900. Each of the auditoriums will be equipped with state-of-the-art Sony 4K digital projection and Dolby digital surround sound with select auditoriums also equipped for archival 35mm projection. The smaller rooms will allow movies with a smaller potential audience to share Drafthouse space with blockbuster fare or allow blockbusters a longer-than-normal theatrical run.

Now adjacent to the theater, The Highball bar will feature seven karaoke rooms, a ballroom with dance floor and stage, a lounge area, and an outdoor patio. Parking will also be improved for guests with nearly 750 total retail parking spaces at Lamar Union, including a 576 space parking garage adjacent to the theater. But, sadly for many, no bowling lanes.
