AFS welcomes John Sayles to Austin for two screenings of his work
Two-time Oscar nominee John Sayles visits Austin this weekend for a screening of one of his latest films and one of his older works. Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Alamo Drafthouse Slaughter the writer-director will screen his new movie “Go For Sisters,” a murder mystery set on the Mexican border, and Sunday he will join AFS at the Marchesa for a screening of “Matewan,” his 1987 movie about labor unions in a coal mining town.
Sayles has a long history with Austin. His 1996 film “Lone Star” starred Matthew McConaughey, whose role in that film inspired Jeff Nichols to cast the actor in “Mud,” and Sayles’ 2007 film “Honeydripper” starred Austin musician Gary Clark Jr., whom the director met at South by Southwest in 2005.
