“Skunk,” a short by the University of Texas’ Annie Silverstein, has been selected for the prestigious Cinefondation Selection competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

The competition includes 16 films from students at cinema schools around the world, and 1,631 were submitted by schools this year, so the selection of being in the final 16 is quite a big deal for Silverstein.

Only two other Americans made the cut. They are Max Chan, “Our Blood,” of Hampshire College, and Reinaldo Marcus Green, “Stone Cars,” of the NYU Tisch School of the Arts.

Three prizes will be awared at a ceremony before the screening of the winning films on May 22.
