AGLIFF launch party set for Saturday

The launch party for the 25th annual Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Cheer Up Charlie's. Rebecca Havemeyer will host the party, with musical stylings by DJ JJ Booya. The festival will also be announcing its full program for the festival, which will be held Oct. 3-7 at the Paramount, Stateside, Alamo Ritz and Violet Crown theaters. The party is free and open to the public. 1104 E. Sixth St.
Some of the movies already announced: Iranian director Negar Azarbeyjani's "Facing Mirrors"; Texas native Joshua Sanchez's "Four"; "Heavy Girls" from German director Axel Ranisch; Travis Matthew's "I Want Your Love"; and Ira Sachs' "Keep the Lights On." Former Austinite Kyle Henry will also present his new movie, "Fourplay."

The Austin Film Festival is shaping up to have a heady group of writers at this year's event. Academy Award winner Eric Roth will receive the Distinguished Screenwriter Award for such works as "Forrest Gump," "Ali," "Munich" and "The Insider." He'll be joining "The X-Files" creator, Chris Carter, who will receive the Outstanding Television Writer Award. The festival takes place Oct. 18-25.
