Polar Bear Plunge & Fun Run at Blue Hole Regional Park. Barton Springs Pool isn’t the only swimming hole hosting a daring plunge into cold waters on New Year’s Day. Head to Wimberley for this third annual event, which kicks off with a 5K fun run at 10 a.m. A 1K fun run will begin at 11 a.m. The finish line for both is a jump into Cypress Creek. New Year’s Day Ride with the Meteor Austin. The South Austin bar, cafe and bike shop hosts an inaugural New Year's Day bike ride. Featured for this ride will be, among other things, a route that will have a couple roads typically not bike-friendly most days of the year. There will be beer and a brunch menu upon your return and an award given to whoever’s the best dressed. Get creative. Meet up for breakfast and caffeine at 8 a.m.; the ride begins at 9 a.m. Jan. 1. New Year’s Day Hangover Brunch at La Condesa. The downtown Austin restaurant has it all figured out: Nothing soaks up alcohol quite like masa. Specifically, there will be pancakes azules, or blue corn pancakes with citrus marmalade, piloncillo syrup and honey butter. Check out the full menu ahead of time — that way, it’ll be way easier to order through the massive headache and humbling realization that you aren’t 23 anymore.
