Shark Week Kick-Off Party at Last Straw. In celebration of the return of Discovery Channel's Shark Week, tropical-loving cocktail bar Last Straw hosts an event with proceeds benefiting Period Austin. In particular, proceeds from from Last Straw's Shark Week signature cocktail Blood in the Water, featuring Gosling's Rum and Jefferson's Bourbon, go toward the local organization. 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. 1914 E. B Movies and Bad History: The Great War. Watch a mix of the best and worst portrayals of World War I on the big screen and explore the meaning behind them. Sound & Cinema at the Long Center lawn. One of Austin’s most popular summer events, Sound & Cinema pairs beloved films with Texas artists playing live. They’ll perform a musical tribute to the movie before it plays on the Alamo Drafthouse’s giant inflatable outdoor screen. Zilker Summer Musical: Disney's "The Little Mermaid." Zilker Theatre Productions takes us under the sea for its 61st season. The splashy musical adventure is sure to have audiences singing along with favorite Disney songs. "The Little Mermaid" is based on the animated 1989 film of the same name, which itself was based off the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. 8:15 p.m. Thursday-Sunday through Aug. 17. Hedgehog Brewing Pint Night at WhichCraft Tap Room & Bottle Shop. Have you had the beers of one of Austin's newest breweries yet? Hedgehog's new Hop & A Skip Dry Farmhouse Ale will be on special at WhichCraft. Austin's Birthday Bash. Celebrate the birthday of the city we love and live in the Austin way. At this free community event, there will be good food and live music. Salt & Time is among the food vendors providing the bites, while Mobley, Kalu and the Electric Joint, Bidi Bidi Banda and GirlFriend ATX play the tunes.
