Driving through Austin: Places to check out along Airport Boulevard

Austin’s Airport Boulevard is a long stretch of road. It begins in Central Austin at an intersection on North Lamar Boulevard, and runs east, ending when it meets (and turns into) U.S. 183 headed for the airport. Depending on which part of town you find yourself in, we’ve divided this list of things to do along Airport Boulevard in half -- things to do in Central Austin along Airport, and things to do in East Austin along the popular road, working from west to east.

Central Austin (west of Interstate 35)

Black Star Co-Op -- 7020 Easy Wind Dr.

This popular craft beer bar (technically on North Lamar Boulevard, but it’s right at the intersection with Airport) has a huge patio, bar food and plenty of bar games to play while you eat and drink, as well as the occasional trivia night.

?Jang’s Chimac Cafe -- 6801 Airport Blvd

If you were wondering if Korean fried chicken is a thing, well, it is. The restaurant has six sauce options and plenty of beer, as well as Korean dishes.

?Kick Butt Coffee -- 5775 Airport Blvd

The coffee shop is open late and offers music and comedy open mic nights, as well as concerts. You can also use the shop as a free venue for recitals and family events.

?Quality Seafood Market -- 5621 Airport Blvd

Fulfill your seafood cravings at one of Austin’s authentic counter service seafood joints. You can also purchase fresh fish to cook at home. 

?Barfly’s -- 5420-B Airport Blvd

This dive bar has a great jukebox as well as bar games like billiards and foosball. It’s also got a patio if the darkness inside isn’t your vibe.

?Lammes Candies -- 5330 Airport Blvd

This candy shop is an Austin staple. Visit for authentic old-timey chocolate shop vibes and make sure to pick up a box of pralines. 

?East Side Pies -- 5312 Airport Blvd

If you like a variety of unexpected toppings on your pizzas, East Side Pies is a must-visit. You can also order Chicago-style pizza, gluten-free pies and all the traditional pizzas you can eat.

?Komé -- 5301 Airport Blvd #100

This modern sushi joint offers traditional and contemporary takes on Japanese meals, including happy hour Monday through Thursday. The restaurant recently moved into a larger, more open space and began offering ramen and Japanese whiskey.

Turntable Eatery -- 5111 Airport Blvd

Get pizza, beer, wine and more at the recently opened restaurant by the owners of Barfly’s.

?Bun Belly -- 5001 Airport Blvd

Check out the casual Vietnamese spot for pho and steamed buns.

?Sa-Ten Coffee & Eats -- 4917 Airport Blvd

The newest location of the local shop offers coffee, espresso, Japanese toast and cozy digs.

?Tyson’s Tacos -- 4905 Airport Blvd

It’s one of the most popular taco joints in town with a vast, creative menu. And it’s open 24/7.

?I Luv Video -- 4803 Airport Blvd

Think video rental stores are going out of style? Not this legendary Austin shop. It’s been around since 1984 and is one of the world’s largest independent video stores.

?ColdTowne Theater -- 4803 Airport Blvd

One of Austin’s premier improv venues, ColdTowne is a small BYOB theater with a variety of low-cost shows every night, as well as comedy and improv classes.

This uniquely Austin ice cream shop offers gluten-free and vegan ice cream.

This Austin vintage shop is a must-visit for lovers of classic clothing.

Stop by one of Austin’s most popular tattoo parlors if you’re in need of some new ink.

East Austin (east of Interstate 35)

?Patterson Neighborhood Park -- 4200 Brookview Rd.

The East Austin park has picnic tables, basketball and tennis courts, a playground, a skate park and a public pool, as well as a community garden. There are also plenty of walking and biking trails in the area.

?Mueller Lake Park -- 4550 Mueller Blvd

Just off of Airport Blvd, the park has a loop trail, playgrounds, a picnic area and a beautiful lake. It’s also home to several food trucks at various times of the week.

?The City Theatre Company -- 3823 Airport Blvd D

Catch a play or musical or take acting classes at the small nonprofit performance space.

?The Skylark Lounge -- 2039 Airport Blvd

It’s one of Austin’s most famed dive bars, and one of the best places to catch a live blues performance in town.

?Dan’s Hamburgers -- 844 Airport Blvd

The family-owned restaurant serves up one of Austin’s best fast food burgers.

?Urban Axes -- 812 Airport Blvd

Bond with your friends or coworkers by throwing axes at targets. And it’s BYOB.
