EXCLUSIVE: South Lamar cocktail bar Backbeat to close in mid-June

The cozy watering hole Backbeat will mix up its last cocktail on June 10.

Backbeat has lost its rhythm.

The South Austin cocktail bar, which opened in early 2016 with a promising menu of classic and original drinks, a rooftop patio and a menu of small bites, will close for good on June 10.

Here’s a statement from the Backbeat team about the closure.

“We’d like to thank all of the patrons over the past two years for their continued support and enthusiasm for great cocktails and hospitality. Our staff is looking forward to saying goodbye with a cheers and a smile over the next 10 days. More news about what’s next for the space will be announced in the fall.”

Originally under the direction of cocktail bar masters Michael and Jessica Sanders, the South Lamar Boulevard watering hole — near other popular hangouts like Odd Duck and the Saxon Pub — split from the Sanderses’ MJS Ventures, LLC, last summer. Jessica Sanders still owns and operates her North Loop bar Drink.Well.

Backbeat is located at 1300 S. Lamar Blvd. For more information, visit
