So long to the downtown Ginger Man, which is moving to new East Austin location

The Ginger Man has been located in downtown Austin for more than 20 years, but it's moving to the Plaza Saltillo development in East Austin.

It’s the end of an era for longtime patrons of the downtown Ginger Man, one of Austin’s very first bars focused on craft beer — the bar on Lavaca Street is closing for good over Memorial Day weekend.

But don’t worry, the shutter isn’t for long: The Ginger Man is relocating to one of the hottest East Austin redevelopment sites, Plaza Saltillo, which is set to open sometime next year.

The final day of the Ginger Man at 301 Lavaca St. is May 27, and the bar invites Austinites to head there for a pint and a celebration of the more than 20 years that it has been located in downtown’s bustling Warehouse District.

“Thank you to all of our neighbors, regulars, and characters that have made downtown such a great ride,” according to the Ginger Man on Facebook.

And if you’ve got a hankering for the Ginger Man before the East Austin location opens, there’s another option — although it will require a bit of a drive. The Ginger Man opened a second location in Bee Cave’s Hill Country Galleria last month, offering an expanded food and drink menu.
