Confituras Little Kitchen: Owner Stephanie McClenny has been delivering tasty preserves made with local ingredients to Austinites since 2010. Her efforts have nabbed awards, national attention and grant money from the Austin Food & Wine Alliance. Now, she has a shop serving the preserves, jams and jellies on homemade biscuits. Confituras Little Kitchen is located at 2129 Goodrich Ave. just off South Lamar Boulevard.
Flower Child downtown: Located at 500 W. Second St., the second Austin location of this restaurant from the Fox Restaurant Concepts focuses on clean food like salads, wraps and grain bowls using responsibly sourced ingredients like grass-fed steak, organic non-GMO tofu, organic vegetables and more.
It’s Italian Cucina: Owner Al Fini’s Northern Italian-influenced restaurant, which grew out of a former market of the same name in East Austin, serves dinner nightly, with a menu that includes pastas such pumpkin ravioli with garlic brown butter sauce, linguine with clams, agnolotti filled with osso bucco and classic entrees like veal marsala and chicken with prosciutto. Located at 1500 S. Lamar Blvd. (in the Post complex that is home to Barlata).
ManinPasta: The restaurant that took over the former Aroma Italian Kitchen space at 3403 S. Lamar Blvd. restaurant serves a lunch menu that includes pastas, salads, Neapolitan pizzas and panini, and expand on that menu at night for a broad selection of more than 15 pastas, including housemade fettuccine with salmon and spaghetti carbonara and shaped and filled pastas such as squid ink ravioli stuffed with crab meat.
TLC: The menu from chef Jeff Parks (formerly of Gumbo’s) at the restaurant located at the Lamar Union (1100 S. Lamar Blvd.) includes a variety of seafood boils, sandwiches sandwiches, Gulf redfish, oysters and shrimp, along with comfort staples like deviled eggs and chicken fried steak. The restaurant states in a release that the seafood will be “local, and sustainably sourced when possible.”
Kome: The restaurant opened by husband-and-wife team of Kayo and Také Asazu in 2011, has a bigger, brighter space to welcome guests with its izakaya dishes and slate of sushi. The new space is located at 5301 Airport Blvd.
La Matta: New Waterloo, the team behind Sway, La Condesa the South Congress Hotel and more, opened the Italian sandwich shop and cafe at the corner of East Fifth and Comal streets (501 Comal St.).
Be More Pacific Kitchen and Bar: The Filipino restaurant spawned from the food truck that Mark Pascual and Giovan Cuchapin began six years ago, is now open at 7858 Shoal Creek Blvd. in the space previously occupied by Rebel Pizza Bar.
Krua Urban Thai: The menu at the Thai restaurant at 2024 S. Lamar Blvd. (the old Barley Swine) features familiar dishes like Thai-style chicken wings, Northern Thai sausage, a variety of curries, crab fried rice and more.
Veracruz All Natural: The makers of the best migas taco in Texas now has a brick-and-mortar restaurants to call its own, specifically at 9003 Waterford Centre Blvd. (near US 183 and Burnet Road).
Le Politique: French brasserie from the owners of Sway and La Condesa opened in the Northshore hi-rise at 110 San Antonio St.
Phoebe’s Diner: Comfort food cafe from the owners of Winebelly and chef Cameron Stuerzenberger (formerly of Fork & Vine and Bess Bistro, among others) is located at 533 W. Oltorf St., in the same strip as Winebelly. Think buttermilk pancakes, fried chicken, smoked pork ribs, smoked ham and more.
