It may be freezing on New Year’s Day in Austin -- but the Barton Springs Polar Bear Splash is still on

You know, if it’s 30 degrees outside, then technically jumping into a pool with a temperature between 65 and 75 degrees year-round should feel pretty warm, right? That’s science.

So even though it’s expected to be in the high-20s or lower-30s temperature-wise on New Year’s Day, you have no excuse to skip the annual Polar Bear Splash at Barton Springs Pool.

The yearly event, which is not for the faint of heart, takes place at 9 a.m. Monday, with free coffee and doughnuts to warm yourself up afterward and commemorative T-shirts you can buy to prove to your friends that you are maybe a little crazy for jumping into freezing water on the first day of 2018. Hey, we’re not judging.
