Drag me to hell: Watch drag queens slay at Elysium’s back-to-back shows

Monday’s a drag. Let’s do something about that.

Let’s recall the classic movie “Too Wong Foo” and this oft-quoted quip: “When a gay man has way too much fashion sense for one gender, he is a drag queen.”

That wisdom — as real as VVS stones — should ring true on Halloween as it does in everyday life.

Also recall another celebrated quote from the film: “Why is that little Latin boy in drag crying?”

He’s sad because we’re still days away from our favorite day of the year — and already ghouls just wanna have fun.

COMPLETE GUIDE: Don’t boo-crastinate: How to find Halloween fun all month long.

No more tears. On Red River Street, longtime Austin goth haunt Elysium is calling all Party City queens (we see you, Sharon Needles fans) for back-to-back nights of macabre drag shows this week, where two ensembles will trick-or-treat you right.

On Oct. 19, Louisianna Purchase and Zane Zena of Die Felicia present Universal Monsters, a revue celebrating “The Bride of Frankenstein,” “Creature from the Black Lagoon” and other scary classics. There’s a costume contest with prizes, so no wonky eyelashes, please. 10 p.m., $6, 705 Red River St.

Oct. 20, the ghouls of Poo Poo Platter present the fourth annual Texas Drag Show Massacre, a revue including Arcie Cola, Bulimianne Rhapsody and Louisianna Purchase. The special guest is Vander Von Odd, the self-billed “first Drag Supermonster of Dragula.” 10 p.m., $10.

The freaks come out at night for more parties at Elysium in the week leading to Halloween, including its big bash on Oct. 28, Helloween 2: Demon’s Night. Horror film fans are promised a burlesque show, costume contest and opening set by Future Blondes. 10 p.m., $5.

Now slay, queens.
