Weekend music picks: ACL Fest late shows, KUTX early show and more

Peter Blackstock

Friday-Thursday: ACL Fest Late Night Shows. Even those not going to Zilker Park can catch some of the bands playing the Austin City Limits Music Festival at more than two dozen official late-night shows at a handful of local venues. Tickets are sold out for some shows, including Run the Jewels and Portugal the Man at Stubb’s, Car Seat Headrest at the Mohawk, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real at Antone’s and Rufus du Sol at Vulcan Gas Company. But plenty of good options remain, including Benjamin Booker at the Parish (Friday, $18); Thundercat at Scoot Inn (Saturday, $18); Missio at Antone’s (Saturday, $16-$18); Vulfpeck at Emo’s (Monday-Tuesday, $25), Oh Wonder at Stubb’s (Wednesday, $25-$27) and Muna at the Parish (Thursday, $16). Full list of shows at — P.B.

Friday: KUTX Live at the Four Seasons. Austin’s public radio affiliate returns to the Four Seasons for a morning broadcast featuring ACL Fest artists. The broadcast is headlined by soulful rocker Benjamin Booker and includes 30-minute sets from Hamilton Leithauser, Valerie June and Annabelle Chairlegs. Admission also includes a breakfast taco, a Kind bar and bottomless coffee. Proceeds benefit the Seton Shivers Cancer Center. $10 (cash only). Kids ages 3-10 are $5, kids 2 and younger are free. 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. 98 San Jacinto Blvd. — D.S.S.

Saturday: Whitney Rose at Hill Country Galleria. The recent Canadian transplant celebrates the release of her new album “Rule 62” by playing Sun Radio’s seasonal Saturday Night Concert Series in the open-air park at Bee Cave’s central shopping destination. One of Austin’s brightest young talents in country music, Rose is a protege of Mavericks singer Raul Malo, who produced the new album and recruited an ace supporting cast of musicians who regularly play with the likes of Sheryl Crow and Marty Stuart. On the home front, she’s gathered a great backing band that plays regularly on Thursdays during the Continental Club’s happy hour. Hear them stretch out on a larger stage to cap a week of record-release events. Free (donations to Sun Radio accepted). 7 p.m. 12700 Hill Country Blvd., Bee Cave. — P.B.
