The Austin American-Statesman and KVUE-TV are taking their news partnership to the next level, executives with both media outlets announced Friday afternoon.
As part of a newly finalized agreement, Statesman reporter Tony Plohetski will regularly appear on KVUE’s newscasts, delivering jointly branded investigative reports.
“This allows the Statesman to extend our reach to a new audience, and produce the work that is important to us and the community, such as investigative and watchdog reporting,” Statesman publisher Susie Ellwood said. “The partnership with KVUE will attract new digital and print consumers across all of our media platforms, benefitting our readers and advertisers.”
“Investigative journalism is at the core of both of our newsrooms,” KVUE executive news director Frank Volpicella said. “It makes sense that the two leading news organizations in Austin join together in this unique partnership for the benefit of our viewers and readers.”
Plohetski, who joined the Statesman in 2000, is part of the newspaper’s investigative team, focusing primarily on city government and law enforcement.
“Print journalism has always been my first love, but I’ve had an interest and healthy respect for TV news since childhood,” he said. “I look forward to continuing to tell the stories that are important to Austin in the newspaper, on television and online.”
