KXAN is once again beefing up its heavily promoted investigative team, bringing in a well-known reporter who has worked in a pair of much larger Texas cities.
Brian Collister, who was most recently at ABC-owned KTRK in Houston, is set to join the news team at Austin’s NBC affiliate in the coming weeks, the station announced Wednesday.
Prior to his stint in Houston, Collister spent several years at WOAI in San Antonio, where he was a part of the Troubleshooters investigative team.
“Brian has more than two decades’ experience digging into stories all around Texas,” KXAN news director Chad Cross said. “He has earned a reputation throughout Texas and across the country as a powerful investigative reporter who gets results and holds powerful people accountable. His hire speaks volumes about our station and company. Investigative journalism is a top priority.”
A graduate of San Houston State University in Huntsville, Collister is a licensed private investigator and a Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas board member.
“Because KXAN News focuses on in-depth, investigative journalism, it’s crucial to have reporters like Brian on our team,” Cross said. “He’s an expert at using our lawful right to access public information. He knows who to talk to and where to get the answers viewers want.”
