The Zone picks up ESPN shows dumped by The Horn

ESPN Radio is (sorta) back in Austin.
“Mike and Mike” and “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” popped up this morning – unannounced – on 1300 AM The Zone.
Both shows, along with a host of other ESPN programming, have been off the air since January when they were dumped by 104.9 FM The Horn following an ownership change.
The Horn’s management team told me at the time that ESPN’s programming wasn’t doing particularly well in Austin, prompting the change. Now, aside from local sports shows mornings, at lunchtime and evenings, The Horn runs music.
On The Zone, “Mike and Mike” displaces “The Mike Taylor Show,” which had been piped in from sister station AM 760 The Ticket in San Antonio.
The addition of Cowherd’s show, meanwhile, means the nationally syndicated “Dan Patrick Show” will now be heard on a tape delay at 7 p.m.
The rest of The Zone’s programming, including its locally produced “Sports Buffet” program, which runs from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., remains intact.
The Zone’s new lineup
- 5 a.m.: “Mike and Mike”
- 9 a.m.: “The Herd with Colin Cowherd”
- 11 a.m.: “Jay Mohr Sports”
- 2 p.m.: “Sports Buffet”
- 7 p.m.: “The Dan Patrick Show”
- 10 p.m.: Fox Sports Radio
