Look for a new face to pop up Monday on the Longhorn Network.
The Austin-based cable channel, which is operated by ESPN as part of a 20-year, $300 million deal with the University of Texas, has hired Jane Slater as a reporter and host of the “Longhorn Extra” program.
Slater most recently worked in Dallas, where she hosted a radio show in addition to reporting for the city’s two CBS-owned television stations, KTXA and KTVT.
“Jane’s sports and television expertise really stood out as we went through the interview and audition process,” said LHN coordinating producer Tom McCollum. “We’re excited to have her on the LHN team and expect she will make an immediate impact to our coverage.”
A UT graduate, Slater said she’s eager to get started covering her alma mater.
“This really is a dream come true,” she said. “The idea of returning to Austin and working for Longhorn Network and ESPN … it doesn’t get any better than that. I have really enjoyed watching Sam (Ponder) and Kaylee (Hartung) excel in this position and hope I can keep that tradition going.”
