KVUE lays off 4 employees

Four behind-the-scenes positions have been eliminated at Austin ABC affiliate KVUE.
The layoffs – two in the art department and two in master control – are the result of a consolidation project that will result in some station functions, such as creating graphics, being done at companywide hubs, president and general manager Patti Smith said.
KVUE is one of more than a dozen stations Dallas-based Belo sold to Gannett last year in a deal worth $2.2 billion.
The positions that have been cut will allow the station to reallocate resources, Smith said, beefing up its news team.
“All of this was done with the intent of serving the community better,” she said.
Gannett isn’t the only Austin broadcaster eliminating jobs. Media General, which is in the process of acquiring Austin-based LIN Media, revealed last week that it was letting 45 corporate-level employees go.
LIN Media operates three Austin TV stations: NBC affiliate KXAN, The CW affiliate KNVA and MyNetworkTV affiliate KBVO.
