Tuesday music picks: Washed Out, 8½ Souvenirs, BettySoo
Washed Out at the Mohawk. In an era rife with ridiculous band names, Ernest Greene found a very good one for his ethereal, cinematic synth-pop act, which sets forth layers of melodies and beats in waves of sound that wash over you. Though he’s from Athens, Ga., it was Seattle label Sub Pop that brought him to the fore, helping both his 2011 debut “Within and Without” and last year’s follow-up “Paracosm” reach the top 30 of the Billboard charts. He scored a major SXSW gig when he played Butler Park back in March with Foster the People; catch him outdoors again as he turns the Mohawk’s big stage into a swirling sea of late-summer dreams. Small Black opens. $22. 6:30 p.m. doors. 912 Red River St. mohawkaustin.com. — P.B.
