Blue Oyster Cult to play during Lone Star Le Mans
Circuit of the Americas announced the music lineup for next weekend’s Lone Star Le Mans race today. The Lone Star Le Mans features multiple classes of cars from specially designed prototypes to race-modified street cars racing on the same track.
Long Island rockers Blue Oyster Cult, who will present a concert at the Austin360 Amphitheater on Saturday at 3 p.m., are the highlight of the event’s musical program. A stellar cast of locals including Wayne “the Train” Hancock and Mike Barfield will perform at the Airstream stage on the main plaza on Saturday. Local powerhouse Brownout will also perform and we certainly hope they’ll be doing Brown Sabbath songs because, really, is there any better soundtrack for fast cars screaming around a track than classic heavy metal songs reimagined with a Latin funk vibe?
In addition to the music the Lone Star Le Mans has a variety of family activities including race simulators, armadillo races and a petting zoo with longhorns. The race takes place on Sept. 18-20 and tickets are $79 with children twelve and under admitted for free. In general, this event seems like a laid back way to introduce your family to the thirll of racing with significantly less glitz and hype than the upcoming Formula One US Grand Prix.
