Renegades of Rhythm at ACL Live. The records of Afrika Bambaataa, a seminal hip-hop figure and pioneer of break beat DJing, are artifacts of American music history, the songs that rocked the NYC block parties from which hip hop as an art form sprang forth. Cornell University is in the process of digitally archiving Bambaataa’s 40,000 album collection. As a tribute to the Zulu Nation founder, turntablists DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist were invited to do a mix tape using Bambaataa’s records. The idea evolved into a six-week, 25-city tour. With a vibe that’s both throwback and forward looking, the two DJs aim to honor the genre’s past while moving it into the future. $30-$40. 8 p.m. 310 W. Willie Nelson Blvd. acl-live.com. — D.S.S.
