Fun Fun Fun Fest releases schedule grid

Have we all recovered from ACL Fest? Good. Fun Fun Fun Fest, which takes place from Nov. 7-9 at Auditorium Shores, just released its schedule grids today so we can all start planning our next festival experience. There aren’t a whole lot of surprises in this grid and in general, the diverse programming of FFF Fest produces less confounding schedule conflicts than the ACL schedule. I’m guessing there’s not a huge crossover between the 2 Chainz, Alt-J and Judas Priest audiences, so most fans won’t be tearing their hair out over which Friday headliner to see. Also, the way the sets are staggered, it could be feasible to catch a few songs from all three.
It is worth noting, that Judas Priest, perhaps the highest profile name on the lineup is playing the Black stage. While this falls neatly in line with genre divisions — Black stage is the home to rowdy punk and heavy metal — in past years the Orange stage was significantly larger, making it home to most of the fest’s marquee acts.
Beyond that, it’s a little surprising that rapper Nas is not a headliner. He’s slotted before Girl Talk on the Blue Stage on Saturday. Admittedly, the mashup master Girl Talk is one of the best party rockers in the game. His energy level and hype would be hard to follow, but it is a little sad to see a integral hip-hop figure like Nas not get top billing.
The Fun Fun Fun Fest Nites schedule has not been released. The Nites programming includes 150 artists, some of whom are not playing the festival, at 14 clubs around town. Unlike ACL Festival, which sells separate tickets for festival late night shows, all FFF Nites shows are included in the price of your festival wristband. In previous years, it’s been unclear whether individual tickets to nights shows would be available. This year, the festival says shows will be limited to wristband holders only. No individual tickets will be sold at the door.
