Our latest updates on South by Southwest shows
Avett Brothers, Ryan Adams at SXSW
The Avett Brothers and Ryan Adams are part of a late-added South by Southwest show on Wednesday night at the JW Marriott Hotel.
Universal Music and Marriott Rewards are teaming up to present the 8 p.m. show, which precedes daytime showcases at the Marriott starting at noon Thursday and March 18. The events are limited to SXSW Music and Platinum badge holders, along with Marriott Rewards members.
Highlights of the daytime showcases include Grizfolk and the Strumbellas on Thursday and Vince Staples and Snarky Puppy on March 18. SXSW’s schedule shows an additional event in the series on Tuesday from 8 to 11 p.m. A SXSW statement noted that the show’s sponsors “are converting the entire hotel into a music venue during the five-day festival,” though details on what that entails were unclear.

Free SXSW shows
The last of South by Southwest’s three free Auditorium Shores shows is now set: Singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne, with My Morning Jacket as his backing band, will headline a show on Thursday afternoon and evening.
LaMontagne will perform his new album “Ouroboros,” which was produced by My Morning Jacket leader Jim James, in its entirety as part of the show. He’ll take the stage at 8 p.m., with opening acts Thao & the Get Down Stay Down (7 p.m.), Brian Fallon of Gaslight Anthem (6 p.m.), Parker Millsap (5 p.m.) and Austin’s own Carson McHone (4 p.m.). Gates open at 2 p.m.
Another late SXSW add is a free show on March 19 at Emo’s featuring Argentinian group Capsula, who will be performing David Bowie’s “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars” in its entirety. Two local tribute bands also are on the bill, with HeartByrne performing songs by the Talking Heads and A Live One playing the music of Phish.
Both shows are open to anyone with the SXSW guest pass, available for free via the SXSW website’s Guest Pass page.
